Jun 13, 2008 Remi, a bigot

Beautifully articulated by Remi at 1:08 pm with 4 comments

Looking over at some comments at MetroSpokane, I have learned that I am a bigot. This all stems from a review that I didn’t write, but whatever, I agree with pretty much everything in it.

Funny thing is I don’t care what anybody belives in, as long as they don’t preach it to my face. When that happens, that’s when I turn on the bigot-o-meter. That’s when I’m ready to see the Scientologists castrated, the Mormons de-programmed, the Presbyterians executed.

What the Bible Thumpers can’t see, of course, is that some of us might prefer a coffee shop to be a coffee shop, not a place to push religion. So why not put a warning out there? That way likeminded people don’t have to fall into the holier-than-thou trap.

As for the smartasses who are ready to play the “if you don’t like it don’t go there” card… Well… If you don’t like the review, don’t read it.

I’m an ordained reverend. I kid you not, I totally am. Universal Life Church is my monastery, and it’s totally not a scam.

Remi, a minister

And I can perform weddings! True fact! In other words, if you’re in need of a Holy Man to perform your ceremony, then I’m your man. I’m looking at you Andrew.

Jun 11, 2008 Champagne of beer #2: Bud Light Lime

Beautifully articulated by Remi at 9:50 am with 9 comments

Large scale brewing companies are kinda like five year olds; if one does something, the other one has to do the same thing. I’m not sure which one came first, Bud Light Lime (or BLL as I like to call it) or Miller Chill, and really, it doesn’t matter much anyway. Now we have two lime infused beers to choose from, and the only negative aspect of that is you have to choose which one to drink. Unless you mix the two. Mindblowing!

As for BLL… I doubt I’d notice the difference between it and Miller Chill if I did a blind taste test (they’re both so delicious,) but BLL does seem a bit more lime-y and somewhat less chemically tasting. In other words, it has the current edge, and is the reigning Champagne of Beers!

If you missed out on Booze Walk ‘08, you’re a douche bag of the highest caliber, and you missed out on what possibly was my drunkest night of the year. Yet I didn’t get much of a hangover. Imagine that.

Oh yeah Still an image Mmmm Hmmm

Enjoy the photos over at Flickr.

Jun 05, 2008 Champagne of beer #1: Miller Chill

June means it’s BBQ season, and BBQ season means it’s time to bring out the real beer. No more crappy microbrews with “flavor” and “no headache the next day.” BBQ season means real beer. Beer infused with lime.

The champagne of beer

I’m still unsure what “Chelada style” means, although going by Wikipedia’s definition of michelada style beer, I am just going to assume that Miller missed the mark by a few yards. (How shocking is that?)

But that’s not to say Miller Chill isn’t delicious! Oh no no no! It’s so good when it hits the lips! It’s like… biting into a lime while sifting water through it. Close your eyes and concentrate really really hard, and you might even notice a hint of beer.

You’d be a Ryouche not to enjoy a Miller Chiller. Or maybe you’d be a Ryouche to enjoy it.

You decide.

Jun 04, 2008 “Album 2.0″

Beautifully articulated by Remi at 1:54 pm with no comments

I pretty much despise any buzzword that ends with “2.0.” I mean really? 2.0? That’s the best you could come up with?

Yet I still like the concept J Allard harped on about a year or so ago, album 2.0. Of course, when I say Allard, I’m not suggesting he came up with it. Like pretty much everything else on the planet, the concept was conceived well before Microsoft picked it up for marketing purposes. That’s neither here nor there though.

Anyway.

I, for the most part, prefer enjoy music in digital format. It’s convenient, it provides instant gratification, it’s portable, and does, for the most part, sound good. (Not counting iTunes downloads here.) Yet the problem is simple; all you download when you download a song is just that… A song. If you’re lucky iTunes or WMP or Zune or whatever will add the cover art if it’s available form any of their databases, but that’s a crapshoot if you listen to anything half-way semi-obscure.

Point being, I liked all the stuff you got when you bought an LP or a CD. Lyrics, liner notes, pictures, all that good stuff… And really, from a technical perspective it wouldn’t take much to implement something like this; the cover art is already being downloaded, and adding other types of meta data would be simple. iTunes actually has an option to add lyrics manually (and possibly other players do too… hell, possibly it’s in the default MP3 format, I’m not an idiot savant when it comes to this stuff.)

As for J Allard… If he really is such a proponent of album 2.0 I can’t help but wonder why Zune still doesn’t do more to achieve this. I suppose Microsoft prefers to wait for Apple to take the plunge first.

Oh, as for where all of this came from: I picked up The Petals’ Parahelion on vinyl from eBay the other day. Blue vinyl, no less. It’s pretty fucking awesome.

Jun 03, 2008 Why I give BBC America a <3

Beautifully articulated by Remi at 5:27 pm with 3 comments

Did you know “<3″ is a heart? I just learned that last year. True fact.

Anyway!

I’m having a love affair with BBC America, and I have no problems admitting it. Sure, you can be a bitch and argue that BBC in the UK has no commercials and thus is superior. And yes, Channel 4 might have some better shows (Peep Show springs to mind.) Point being, trite and dull as American television is, there is quality to be found on BBC America, and these are the shows you need to program to your DVR:

Gorden Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares
Random restaurant going bankrupt. Restaurant calls in Ramsay to help them. Ramsay yells. Ramsay changes the menu. Chefs get angry. Ramsay turns out to be right. Restaurant gets new lease of life. Sure, that sounds kinda lame, but it’s entertainment central. It’s also not as badly staged as the American version on FOX.

That Mitchell and Webb Look
I love Peep Show, but I have to go through unseemly channels to get the episodes. Look is a skit show from the aforementioned sitcom’s primary actors, and it is gold. Think Monty Python’s Flying Circus an you get the idea. Personal favorite recurring sketches: the snooker commentators, Numberwang, and pretty much anything to do with the Nazis.

Torchwood
I don’t quite “get” Doctor Who, but the spin-off is quite an entertaining sci-fi yarn, not dissimilar to The X-Files. Also great for location spotting if you’ve been to Cardiff, Wales. Like I have. And you haven’t. Fuck-o!

The Graham Norton Show
I don’t care what you say, Graham Norton is awesome! His recent interview with David Mitchell? Pure gold. Go to hell if you don’t agree.

And there you have it. You’re a *ouche if you don’t DVR these shows.
